While many biblical parallels can be drawn from Herman, I am not certain this quote quite fits the situation. Herman (the creator) is saddened and ultimately suffers by his decoy’s (creation in his likeness) inability to accomplish the one task set down for it. Much like the disciples’ constant failure in Mark, or Peter’s denial of Jesus, the decoy Herman disappoints the creator Herman. Matt 27:46 or “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” would mean that Herman’s decoy was, in fact, God. A more accurate quote would be Matt 26:40.
This is the first Herman strip I ever read and then I read everything before it and then I came back here and wrote a comment that has nothing clever to say.
Or biblical.
In the words of Beaknard, “Comic…good…”, “…Herman funny.” Amen.
